Parent’s Corner

We know it can be tough to talk to your child about topics like development, self-esteem, and sexual health. But you don’t have to go it alone!

WV FREE works with local, state, and national partners to make sure you have the best resources and most up to date information on starting that conversation with your child.

Why is talking to your kids important?

“When parents talk to and affirm the value of their children, young people are more likely to develop positive, healthy attitudes about themselves. This is also true when the subject is sex. Research shows that positive communication between parents and their children can help young people establish individual values and make healthy decisions.” –Advocates for Youth

Below are some helpful resources from Advocates for Youth on how to get the conversation started. WV FREE and partner organizations will be use these resources every October during national “Let’s Talk” month, which encourages open dialogue between families and youth.
