Did you know that in West Virginia, if you are married, your partner can use physical force to sexually abuse you and it’s not a sexually violent crime? As we stated yesterday: consent is consent regardless of marital status. Senator Karnes wants to keep working in favor of keeping sexual abuse within marriage legal. Let's make things clear: Consent is consent regardless of marital status, period. Senator Robert Karnes expresses he is against removing marital exemption language when it comes to sexual assault allegations. Senator Karnes believes that removing this language would encourage claims on sexual assault during divorce filings. This hypothetical is creating obstacles for people in relationships who seek help out of sexually abusive marriages, including children under 18.
