Amanda Schwartz, of WV Free, offered a different opinion of the legislation.
Margaret Chapman Pomponio, executive director of WV Free, said she is concerned that passage of the bill would lead to the closure of the last remaining clinic in West Virginia that performs abortions.
“Here we are again: Another year, another abortion bill,” she said. “Hard-line politicians are bent on taking health care away from women. This year, they’ve targeted the poorest women.”
She added that most West Virginians she knows do not support the bill, saying, “I know we are a compassionate, kind and generous people.”
